About this group B. About Poster Children C. Random Stuff ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A. About this group A1. What's this group for? To further the Poster Children cause of spreading knowledge throughout the galaxy and of course, to help save the world. A2. Oh really? Yes. Rose says so. A3. What's on topic? Rose says: "I'd love for [alt.music.posterkids] to be a place of (semi-)intelligent conversation, especially not about band stuff, but maybe about things people have learned each day, etc. I just hate the notesfiles that are 'I hate Liz Phair,' 'I love Liz Phair', 'Liz Phair is ugly,' 'Liz Phair rules' etc." (I think Liz Phair is just an example.) Rose also says: "Of course people can rant about silly things too." So, talk about the band is definitely on-topic, but we're not limited to that, and in fact wider discussions are very welcome. I think that's all the explaining that's needed. Try to keep the signal-to-noise ratio high. A3 1/2. Who is Rose? Hey, that question doesn't belong in section A. Go look in B. A4. What's not on topic? Junk mail, spam, and commercial posts are not welcome. And don't be mean to other people. A5. My provider doesn't carry the group. How can I read it? First, ask your internet provider to start carrying it. Most news administrators will be happy to, once they hear that one of their users has interest. Check out http://posterkids.mattdm.org, where you'll find a web-based gateway for alt.music.posterkids. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ B. About Poster Children B1. What are they? Who are they? A cool band. I don't like categorizing music, but if you forced me at gunpoint, I might say that their music is pop/punk/postwave. Or I might just scream and run away. You never know. The band currently consists of Jim (guitar), Rick (guitar, vocals), Rose (bass), and Howie (drums). B2. Where can I find out more? Poster Children (Rose, mostly) run a very good web page at http://www.prairienet.org/~roze/. You should go look at it. You should also check out their albums. The newest is called "RTFM", and not only is it amazingly good musically, it has a very cool CD-ROM portion which was actually written by the band themselves. Most of all, you should go to a Poster Children show when they're in town. It'll be one of the best concerts you've ever been to, I promise. B3. Why doesn't this document tell more? Because this info is about the newsgroup, not the band. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ C. Random Stuff C1. Why is this a "Readme" file and not a FAQ file? Because the newsgroup is relatively new and there haven't actually been many questions, as such. So I made stuff up. C2. Who are you? Look at http://www.mattdm.org/ I'm not connected with PC in any special way. I just think they're cool. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Matthew Miller mattdm@disco.tln.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
